Liverpool won Group A. All three teams finished on 10 pointsEnglish sides Liverpool and Tottenham are through to the knockout stage of the Europa League after beating Udinese and Panathinaikos respectively on Thursday. Ray Lewis Jersey. Steaua Bucharest, Stuttgart and FC Basel claimed the remaining berths in the last 32 to be played in February. In Italy, Jordan Henderson scored midway through the first half to help Liverpool to a 1-0 win, and avenging the 3-2 loss to Udinese at Anfield in October. "(Henderson) is a great lad and works hard and has come in over the last month and made a good contribution to the team," Liverpool coach Brendan Rodgers said. "It was a very good finish and he was unfortunate not to get a second goal as the keeper made a wonderful save." When Young Boys of Switzerland beat already-qualified Anzhi Makhachkala of Russa 3-1, Liverpool won Group A. All three teams finished on 10 points, but Liverpool had the best head-to-head record, followed by Anzhi. Stuttgart advanced despite an embarrassing 1-0 defeat at home to Molde. It was runner-up to Group E winner Steaua Bucharest after the Romanian side drew 1-1 at Copenhagen. Stuttgart edged Copenhagen on head-to-head. Udinese had a couple of decent chances before Liverpool took the lead in the 23rd minute with its first real opportunity. Luis Suarez headed on a corner and Suso passed it back for Henderson to rifle in through a crowd. Former Liverpool goalkeeper Daniele Padelli pulled off several fantastic saves -- denying Henderson and Suarez -- to keep qualification still in question for Liverpool, which knew it had to at least match Young Boys result. Udineses Giovanni Pasquale was sent off late on for a second bookable offence. It almost ended badly for Liverpool in stoppage time as Antonio Di Natale sent a shot skimming over the crossbar with the last kick of the game. "It was very close," Rodgers said. "Hopefully it is a sign we have a little bit of luck going our way because maybe a couple of months back that would have gone in and we would be out of the competition." In Switzerland, Gonzalo Zarate gave Young Boys the lead in the 38th when his initial shot ricocheted around the area and back to him to slot home from a tight angle. Anzhi Makhachkala levelled in first-half stoppage time with a controversial equalizer. Young Boys called loudly for offside but Odil Ahmedov appeared to be level as he received the ball, turned and fired in. Moreno Costanzo doubled Young Boys lead eight minutes after the break after Anzhi failed to deal with a cross. Anzhi striker Lacina Traore was sent off 20 minutes from time for a second bookable offence before Alexander Gonzalez added a third for the home side in stoppage time. Lazio finished as Group J winners after a comprehensive 4-1 win over Maribor. The Italian side progressed with Tottenham, which won 3-1. Emmanuel Adebayor gave Spurs a 29th-minute lead as he beat the offside trap before firing into the bottom right corner. But Zeca headed Panathinaikos level nine minutes into the second half. Tottenham restored its lead when Clint Dempseys header hit the underside of the crossbar and went in off Panathinaikos goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis. Jermain Defoe sealed the match. "When you play with good players they will always create chances for the forwards to score," Defoe said. "Its been good - not just me and Ade (Adebayor) - I think everyone played their part. Hopefully we can keep it going - it was a good victory." In the tight Group E, Steaua needed only a point to advance and was reduced to 10 men at the start of the second half when Cristian Tanase was sent off for a second yellow card. Raul Rusescu gave it the lead with a stunning shot from outside the area which took a slight deflection as it curled into the right side of the goal. Copenhagen levelled three minutes from time through Igor Vetokele, but it was too little too late. At Stuttgart, Davy Claude Angan ran from inside his own half to score the only goal in first-half stoppage time for Norways Molde. FC Basel went through after a goalless draw at already-qualified Genk. It means Fridays postponed match between Videoton and Sporting Lisbon was rendered meaningless. The match was initially delayed shortly before kickoff as groundstaff struggled to drain the waterlogged pitch, but with rain still heavy it was decided to postpone the match. Halladay will undergo a procedure in his right shoulder to repair a partially torn rotator cuff and remove a bone spur. He also has some fraying of the labrum. "I think we did all the right things," Halladay said. "Now I feel I have something to grasp onto, something to move forward with. I dont feel as lost as before. I feel like theres some answers." He is relieved he wont need reconstructive surgery at this stage. On the 15-day disabled list since Monday because of inflammation in his throwing shoulder, the two-time Cy Young Award winner met with Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Halladay hadnt decided on which doctor will but said he expects to have surgery next week to give himself the best chance of returning this season. "Theyre going to go in and clean up the bone spur, clean up the rotator cuff and the labrum, try and keep that as unevasive as possible," Halladay said in the dugout Wednesday before the Phillies played the San Francisco Giants. "From what I understand, if they go in and see during surgery what they saw on the exams, I have a chance to come back and pitch this year -- I have a good chance to come back and pitch this year. Hopefully be a lot more effective." The 35-year-old right-hander has experienced little pain, but his location and velocity have been the pitchers biggest concern. He is 2-4 with an 8.65 ERA in seven starts this season after missing nearly two months last year because of a strained back muscle. Halladay allowed nine runs in 2 1-3 innings of a 14-2 defeat to Miami on Sunday for his second straight loss and second outing in a row of less than four innings -- third in all this year. "They said my range of motion will be better, my location will be better, hopefully the velocity will be better," Halladay said. Jimmy Smith Jersey. "They said the cause is a bone spur; the rotator cuff kept rubbing over it. Over time, it gradually created more and more of a tear. They want to get that cleaned up and get that out of there." Even if he returns this year, Halladay figures to miss a substantial part of the season in his contract year. He is earning $20 million this season. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr., said he wont rule out re-signing Halladay for 2014, though he said it was too early to think that far into the future. Whether Halladay could become a reliable bullpen option has not been addressed, though Halladay reiterated he wants to start. "Who wouldnt want Roy Halladay around?" Amaro said. Halladay said he might have considered retirement had doctors told him he couldnt come back at full strength and regained his former top form. "He said in certain cases its been three months, but we really dont have a timetable," Halladay said of Yocums prognosis. "I think the timetable is going to come once they go in and confirm that, hey, what we saw on the X-rays is exactly what we saw when we went in there. They were definitely optimistic that I would be back this year." He also underwent an exam in which dye is injected into the injured area before scans are taken in the MRI tube. Whenever he is able to pitch again, Halladay still hopes he gets a chance for a World Series ring. "You want to go out strong -- ideally, you want to go out a world champion," he said. "Some of those things arent in your your control. I have no regrets at any point over my career. If things dont work out and they do end on a sour note, Im not going to look at it that way. I really dont think thats going to be the case." Amaro said the Phillies will call up right-hander Tyler Cloyd from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Halladays turn in the rotation Friday at Arizona. lost six of nine home games after winning a franchise-record 13ANAHEIM, Calif. Personalized Packers Jersey. -- With four games left. The Columbus Blue Jackets are back in a playoff spot. Now they will try to hold off the Detroit Red Wings. Fedor Tyutin scored 2:19 into overtime, and the Blue Jackets won their fifth straight game and moved into eighth place in the Western Conference with a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night. Columbus has three games left on a six-game trip before returning home for the finale against Nashville. "We are extremely committed. Thats all we talk about," forward R.J. Umberger said. "We want to make the playoffs and we want to win the Stanley Cup. Thats our goal from Day One." Blake Comeau and Matt Calvert also scored for the Blue Jackets, who rallied to win and jumped two points ahead of Detroit, which lost earlier Wednesday. Columbus moved within one point of seventh-place St. Louis, which has two games in hand. Sergei Bobrovsky made 26 saves. The Ducks, who already have clinched a post-season berth, lead Los Angeles and San Jose by six points in their bid for their second Pacific Division title. Anaheim has lost six of nine home games after winning a franchise-record 13 in a row at Honda Center. "There were lulls in the game where they took the energy back," Ducks centre Andrew Cogliano said. "Thats the difference on why were not winning. Were letting teams get back into the game." Defenceman Sami Vatanen scored his first NHL goal, one day after Anaheim recalled him from the minors, and David Steckel ended a 32-game goal drought. Viktor Fasth stopped 25 shots, including a short-handed breakaway by Umberger in the first period. "I thought we played a good game," Umberger said. "We won the game, so we got some breaks. We said we needed a 60-minute game for us, and this is the best effort we can put together. "The last couple of road games we started slow, so we wanted to put a full effort together. We knew we had to take it to the end to win, and we did." Nick Foligno set up the deciding goal with a nifty spin move away from Saku Koivu at the top of the left circle and threw the puck toward the net before Tyutin redirected it past Fasth for his fourth of the season and first winner since the 2009-10 season. "Nick Foligno did what he does best. Hes able to handle and play with the puck and draw defenders to him, then beat them out of a turn and it opens up some ice," Columbus coach Todd Richards said. "He made a great play to the net and a great deflection." Steckel put Anaheim ahead 2-1 at 4:53 of the third period with his first goal since March 23, 2012. Kyle Palmieri tried to stuff the puck under Bobrovskys pads, and Steckel took a whack at it. The puck hit the goalie and bounced about 20 feet in the air before landing on its side in the crease and rolling across the goal line. "We didnt get down after a fluky, bad goal," Richards said. "The attitude on the bench was great. They stuck with it and continued to do the things that we were doing all game long to have success. And it paid off. "The guys believe. Were finding ways to win hockey games. I thought we were faster and more tenacious on the puck." The Blue Jackets tied it with 10:17 left in regulation, as Calvert converted a rebound of Brandon Dubinskys close-in backhander for his ninth goal. The Ducks opened the scoring 6 seconds into their second power play. Teemu Selanne won a faceoff deep in the Columbus zone, and Vatanen beat Bobrovsky high to the glove side from the top of the left circle after getting the puck from Corey Perry. It was Vatanens fourth NHL game and first since Feb. 6. "I thought Sami was our best player. But we just have to win some games and we have to have everybody contributing," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said. "The reason we had success was because everybody was contributing. The reason were not having success now is because were not getting everybody contributing." Columbus tied it at 16:38 of the second on a redirection by Comeau after former Ducks defenceman James Wisniewski pinched at the right boards to cut off Francois Beauchemins attempted clearing pass and took a wrist shot with Comeau positioned in the low slot. "They had better scoring chances," Boudreau said. "We got a point, but its not the point. Its the playing more complete. And were not playing complete." There was an undeniable sense of relief after the veteran centre scored both goals in a tight 2-1 overtime victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night. It was Connollys first big moment as a member of the Maple Leafs and halted the teams slow slide down the standings. Even in December, thats front and centre in everyones mind. "Im just happy to get the two points, thats a huge win for us the way the standings are and the way theyre going to be throughout the season," said Connolly. "Its going to be a constant grind. With three-point games the way they are now and overtime games, its going to be close the whole way through. "It puts us right back in the mix of things." The Leafs sit sixth in the Eastern Conference, just two points ahead of three teams. Thats what made victory feel even better on a night where all of the offence came with less than five minutes to play in the third period. The struggling Hurricanes were in position to steal the game because of the strong play of goalie Cam Ward, who smashed his stick in frustration after letting a Joffrey Lupul shot dribble past him before Connolly swept home the winner 44 seconds into overtime. "Hes a top goalie in the league, has been for awhile now," said Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf. "Some nights you run into a guy like that. I thought it really showed a lot of character, a lot of resilience, to come back and win that game in overtime." James Reimer stopped 18 shots to pick up his first victory since October for the Maple Leafs (16-11-3). Alex Ponikarovsky replied for the Hurricanes (9-18-5), who fell to 1-5-1 since Kirk Muller replaced Paul Maurice as coach on Nov. 28. Ward finished with 36 saves. It was the sort of game neither struggling team could afford to lose, which was reflected by the tight play. After more than 55 minutes of scoreless hockey, Connolly finally broke through by tipping home Clarke MacArthurs shot at 15:46 of the third period. However, Lupul was called for high-sticking and Ponikarovsky tied it at 18:06 by converting a cross-crease pass. That set the stage for Connollys overtime goal, which was especially popular among the Leafs players because of who scored it. "I think its great to see a guy like that get rewarded," said Phaneuf. "Ive gott nothing but real good things to say about Timmy Connolly, the way that he plays. Custom Jets Jersey" Added winger Colby Armstrong, who told Connolly on the bench he would score the winner: "Good on him, its great playing with him. I thought he deserved a game like that the way he was going tonight." Connolly was Torontos most notable free-agent signing over the summer but had his start with the team interrupted by separate upper-body injuries. Hes been a constant in the lineup the last 12 games and is starting finding his rhythm -- a happy development for a team in need of secondary scoring. In 18 games this season, Connolly has six goals and 15 points. "I think hes played really well and hes done all the things that we thought he could do," said Leafs coach Ron Wilson. The Hurricanes were left trying to find some positives after yet another disheartening loss. They sit dead last in the Eastern Conference and face an uphill struggle to reverse the course with leading scorer Jeff Skinner on the sidelines with an undisclosed injury. One bright spot was Ward, who made good on his vow to be better after getting pulled in two of his last three starts coming in. "(Ward) expects a lot of himself, hes just got to do what he can control," Hurricanes captain Eric Staal said. "He did that tonight and he did a very good job at it. I thought he was our best player and he kept us in it. It was a tough one at the end there, they got a bounce and that was the end of the game." Toronto, meanwhile, faces a tough weekend with a visit to Buffalo on Friday and a home game against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. With the playoff race already a topic of conversation around the Leafs and the standings tightening up, Wilson tried to downplay the importance of the current stretch. "If were feeling pressure the second week of December, were in a lot of trouble," he said. "Theres no pressure or anything like that. Our guys had a very professional approach to the game tonight -- you wouldnt know that we were one of the youngest teams in the league how poised we were right through the whole game." Notes: Skinner missed his second straight game for Carolina. The team is expected to update his condition Wednesday. ... Leafs tough guy Colton Orr was scratched for a ninth straight game. ... Phaneuf played his 500th career NHL game. ... Announced attendance was 19,509. ' ' '

With the Spanish league more than halfway through, Barcelona is 15 points ahead of Madrid, which won the title last season but is now in third place behind crosstown rival Atletico. "Its impossible to win the league this year. We have to think about the Champions League and the Copa del Rey," Mourinho said Wednesday in an interview with French radio station RMC. However, he warned frustrated Madrid fans not to build up their expectations ahead of the match against Manchester United in the last 16. "Its an objective for me (to win the Champions League), but I dont think you should be obsessed," he said. "You have to understand that other teams can win the competition. They also have the potential to do it." Madrids difficult season has increased speculation that he could leave the club at the end of the season. He has previously expressed an interest in returning to coach in England one day -- where he turned Chelsea into Uniteds main challenger and led it to two league titles -- and has also been linked to the Paris Saint-Germain job. "England, I kknow it. Personalized Raiders Jersey I like it a lot and I want to go back one day. Because I only spent 3 1/2 years with Chelsea, and I want to go back and work (in England) one day," he said. While Mourinho said he would welcome the chance to work in France, he distanced himself from speculation linking him with the PSG job -- for now -- out of respect for PSG coach Carlo Ancelotti and sporting director Leonardo. "I am a friend of Carlos, a friend of Leonardos," Mourinho said. "I want success for them and for everything to go well. I want it to be so that they dont need another coach." The 49-year-old Mourinho, who led FC Porto to the Champions League title in 2004, would relish a return to Portugal later in his career, but only to take charge of the national team. "I would like it. Not now, but one day I would," Mourinho said. "I think people in Portugal are also waiting for this moment. Its an experience I want to have, a World Cup, a European Championship." Mourinho said he was twice close to taking charge of the England team but appeared to rule out taking over England at a later stage. "Nearly, in 2007, nearly in 2008. But for me its Portugal," he said. "You can never say never in football, but I think it is Portugal." ' ' '

The European champions remain favourites to take the final automaticLONDON -- Chelsea ended its barren run at home by holding off a second-half fightback by Arsenal to win 2-1 on Sunday, tightening the teams grip on third place in the Premier League and leaving its London rival struggling to make the top four. <a href="http://www.kingsofficialshop.com/">Los Angeles Kings Jersey</a>. Juan Matas excellent finish and a penalty from Frank Lampard gave Chelsea a two-goal lead after only 16 minutes as Arsenals frail defence wilted under gentle but regular snowfall at Stamford Bridge. The visitors couldnt help but improve in the second half and a 58th-minute goal by winger Theo Walcott -- signed up on Friday for a further 3 1/2 years at the club -- offered them hope of at least a draw. Aided by some desperate defending, Chelsea hung on for only its third win in eight home matches -- and first in four in all competitions -- under interim manager Rafa Benitez. The European champions remain favourites to take the final automatic Champions League qualification spot behind the Manchester clubs, who are battling for the title. "We are doing well and progressing," said Benitez, whose teams fast start meant he avoided the kind of crowd abuse that has marred his first two months at Chelsea. Arsenal failed to recover from the damage inflicted by its dreadful first-half showing -- arguably its worst 45 minutes of the season -- and is now 11 points behind Chelsea. Finishing in the Champions League positions is far from guaranteed for Arsene Wengers side, which has been a fixture in Europes top competition for the past 15 years. "The table is the table," Wenger said, bemoaning a second straight slow start following on from the 2-0 home loss to City last weekend. "We have lost two big games in the last week. Thats damaging for us. We cant afford to lose more points. Its a concern." Lacking leaders, defensively weak and failing to show the same work rate and hunger as its opponent, Arsenal was picked off time and again by Chelseas effervescent midfield -- led by Mata -- in the first half. It should have been worse than 2-0 at halftime and Wenger had a face like thunder throughout the half. "We only came into the game when we were 2-0 down -- thats worrying," Wenger said. Matas goal came after Ramires escaped punishment for a foul on Francis Coquelin in the centre circle. While Arsenals players protested, Cesar Azpilicueta lofted a ball over the visiting defence to Mata, who controlled expertly and fired a shot high into the net with Bacary Sagna trailing in his wake. It was all Chelsea and Lampard made it 2-0 after Ramires tumbled under a challenge by goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who as last man was fortunate to only receive a yellow card. The penalty was dispatched low into the corner for the midfielders 195th goal for the club, leaving him seven behind Bobby Tamblings all-time record. More chants of "Sign him up" came from the Chelsea fans, frustrated at the club hierarchys apparent decision to let his contract run down this summer. Ramires and the subdued Fernando Torres, recalled in place of Demba Ba, skied shots over as Chelsea toyed with Arsenal before the interval but the second half couldnt have been more different. Chelsea surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Southampton on Wednesday, virtually dashing the teams slim title hopes, and the same nearly happened five days on. Walcott made it 11 goals in his last 15 appearances by running onto Santi Cazorlas perfectly weighted through ball and sidefooting a lofted finish past goalkeeper Petr Cech, sparking an all-out offensive from Arsenal. Suddenly it was Wengers team first to every ball as the home crowd became nervous but the equalizer never came, with Chelseas defence -- again missing the fit-again John Terry -- holding form. "It was very hard, the second 45 minutes," Mata said. "We were defending until the last minute." <a href="http://www.kingsofficialshop.com/jeff-carter-jersey/">Jeff Carter Kings Jersey</a>. "It was nice to see the fans in the stands, it was exactly what I was looking for," said goaltender Ondrej Pavelec told TSN Radio 1290. "It helps you to get going, the last couple months have not been easy for anybody. We are back in business and need to get going right now. We dont have that much time to practice." Pavelec played 68 games for the Jets last season. When asked about this shortened season and how much work Pavelec would get, head coach Claude Noel couldnt say for sure. "I wouldnt put a number on it because its going to be based on performance," said Noel. "Were going to have to really monitor the energy level and fatigue and be in touch with the goaltending guy (goalie coach Wade Flaherty). "We brought Al Montoya here to play, so how many games is that we dont know, but I like his attitude and I think were getting Al Montoya in a good situation because I think hes at a point in his career where he understands things". A total of 24 players were put through a number of on ice drills on Sunday. Not taking part due to injury were forward Nik Antropov and defenceman Zach Bogosian. Antropov did not pass his medical due to an upper-body injury but he is hopeful to play against Ottawa on Saturday. Both players did skate following the main practice with strength and conditioning cooach Lee Stubbs. <a href="http://www.kingsofficialshop.com/jonathan-quick-jersey/">Jonathan Quick Purple Jersey</a> The Jets now have five days of practice to prepare for the opening game against the Senators and Noel talked about his approach. "Our goal is to try and get us all at the same level at some time so we can all function better," offered the head coach. "The biggest thing is teaching the players to try and help them with their focus, recognizing that we dont want to concern ourselves with injury problems. Its always about the games, but in this short sprint, its going to be what were doing on the ice that reaches the playoffs." If there is a positive to this shortened season, its the familiarity the management and coaching staff has with their players. Tanner Glass, Tim Stapleton, Chris Mason and Mark Flood are the only notables not back, but otherwise the core group remains, according to Noel. "Last year, I stood up here and said Im the third coach in four years for these players; its a different location, a whole different scenario," said Noel. "This year, the players look a lot more comfortable and they know what to expect from the fans, the city, the coach, I think thats real good. "We have to improve our goals against, our road play, obviously and our numbers, like special teams. We just have to perform better." The Jets will practice at MTS Centre Monday through Friday, with the exception of Wednesdays skate, which will be held at MTS IcePlex due to a concert downtown. ' ' '
That confidence only increased after Sam Shields returned an interception 52 yardsSAN FRANCISCO -- When Colin Kaepernick went back to throw, he found open receivers. <a href="http://www.pittsburghpenguinsnhlshop.com/jaromir-jagr-penguins-jersey/">Jaromir Jagr Jersey</a>. When the Green Bay Packers had it covered, he scrambled for back-breaking gains. When Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers mixed in the read option, the Packers had no chance. A week after holding 2,000-yard rusher Adrian Peterson in check, the Packers were run over and sent home from the playoffs with a 45-31 loss Saturday night. "We just didnt have an answer," linebacker A.J. Hawk said. "We couldnt find a way to get off the field on third down. We couldnt find a way to get off the field ever, really. He did a great job if he pulled it down to run. On passing plays, he did a good job of getting it down field. Also, when they were running that option play, we couldnt get it stopped." The Packers (12-6) came into the game brimming with confidence after holding Peterson to 99 yards in a 24-10 win last week that set up a rematch of a week one meeting with the 49ers. That confidence only increased after Sam Shields returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown on the opening drive. That would end up being about the only bright spot during a historically bad night for the Green Bay defence that gave up the most total yards (579), yards rushing (323) and second-most points in the playoffs in franchise history. Only one other team has run for at least 320 yards and four touchdowns in a post-season game, with Chicago accomplishing the feat in a 73-0 win over Washington in 1940. Those Bears didnt have a quarterback who could paralyze a defence with the read-option and scrambles the way Kaepernick did in gaining 181 yards, a record for a quarterback in the regular season or playoffs. "You cant let him out of there," defensive back Charles Woodson said. "Its that simple, it seems. You get good rushes on a guy like that and he finds that one hole, that one gap. When he takes off, hes out of there. It seems like its 10 yards a pop every time he sneaks out of there. When that happens its hard to defend." Kaepernick scrambled for a 20-yard score in the first quarter. Then he set the rushing record for a quarterback in the playoffs when he faked an inside handoff to Frank Gore and raced untouched for a 56-yard score that gave San Francisco a 31-24 lead late in the third quarter. "We didnt handle the read option very good and we didnt handle the quarterback getting out of the pocket," coach Mike McCarthy said. "You may not have noticed, but we did have a spy on him at times." It just didnt matter. Then the power running took over from there with Gore and Anthony Dixon each running for short scores that turned the tight game into a blowout. It was another example of how San Francisco is a completely different team than the one that beat the Packers in Green Bay in September with the elusive Kaepernick having replaced Alex Smith at quarterback. The Packers seemed unprepared for Kaepernicks zone-read plays and scrambles, and they now will have all off-season to figure out how to handle them in the future. "The one thing it does is it kind of makes you a little bit indecisive in what you want to do," Woodson said. "You want to shoot in there, but he may hold the ball and take it outside. If you go outside, he might give it to the running back and take it up the middle. Its one of those things that makes you play flat footed a little bit." They even struggled when the Niners went to the air, allowing Kaepernick to throw for 263 yards and two first-half touchdowns to Michael Crabtree. "To win a game, you need to make a team one dimensional, take away the run and make them beat you throwing," Hawk said. "That was our plan coming in but it didnt work out. Its crazy to end the season so abruptly like this but we know thats how it works in the playoffs." That all proved to be too much for even last years NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers to overcome. He threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns, but also was intercepted once and couldnt keep up with Kaepernick. <a href="http://www.pittsburghpenguinsnhlshop.com/evgeni-malkin-penguins-jersey/">Malkin Jersey</a>. -- Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis will miss the remainder of the season with an arm injury, an enormous blow to an already depleted defence that has uncharacteristically struggled this year. <a href="http://www.pittsburghpenguinsnhlshop.com/deryk-engelland-penguins-jersey/">Deryk Engelland Jersey</a>. TSN scout Craig Button and TSN hockey contributor Pierre McGuire took turns predicting where hockeys top prospects would end up on Friday in the 2012 TSN Mock Draft.COLUMBUS, Ohio -- After a stunning loss, the Indiana Hoosiers were on a mission to reaffirm just how good they were. There was no questioning their ability Sunday. Victor Oladipo scored a career-high 26 points, Cody Zeller added 24 and Christian Watford 20 to lead No. 1 Indiana back from a demoralizing loss to a huge road win in beating No. 10 Ohio State 81-68 on Sunday. "It was putting teams away, playing to win and not just playing for the time to run out," Zeller said of the lessons learned from an upset loss at Illinois on Thursday. "So, we made that adjustment pretty well." Boy, did they. The Hoosiers (21-3, 9-3 Big Ten) dominated the second half while making some history and staying in the thick of the Big Ten race. "We knew we let one get away from us," Watford said. "At that point you just have to move on to the next one." The Hoosiers were coming off an epic collapse that might have caused the undoing of many teams. The Illini went on a 13-2 run to close the game, with Indiana turning the ball over late and then allowing an uncontested layup at the buzzer of a 74-72 shocker. Less than three days later, they more than rebounded with a signature win in hostile territory. The victory was Indianas first against a Top-10 conference opponent in more than 20 years -- since a win in 1993 at Iowa. It was also the Hoosiers first win against any team in the top 10 on the road since beating Notre Dame in 2000. "From the very beginning after we lost the other night, the biggest thing for our team was we were not going to spend a lot of our time worrying about bouncing back," coach Tom Crean said. "Im proud of the way these guys responded from a very tough loss." Indiana, now 3-0 against Top-10 teams this year, stayed in lock step with the leaders in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers are now tied with Michigan State (9-2) in the Big Ten standings. Michigan and Wisconsin are next at 8-3, followed by Ohio State at 7-4. The Hoosiers shot 53 per cent from the field, the highest by any Ohio State opponent this season. They did it by pounding the ball to Zeller down low, or hitting open jumpers when they got them. They seldom settled for a quick shot, instead patiently waiting until they could find a teammate who had an even better look. <a href="http://www.pittsburghpenguinsnhlshop.com/james-neal-penguins-jersey/">James Neal Jersey</a> The Hoosiers -- mostly their triumvirate of Oladipo, Zeller and Watford -- always seemed to come up with a big play when most needed. "Today we got a lot of really good basketball from Victor Oladipo, Cody Zeller and Christian Watford," Crean said. "(They) played as well as a triangle -- three guys -- that you could get. And it was on both ends of the floor." Ohio State trailed 43-39 after Deshaun Thomas, an Indiana native and the Big Ten scoring leader who finished with 26 points, hit all three attempts after he was fouled behind the arc by Yogi Ferrell, the Hoosiers freshman point guard, who went to the bench with his third foul. But Oladipo spun and hit a 12-footer in the lane and then tossed in a 3 from the right wing to push the lead to nine points. Each time the Buckeyes would come up with a basket or defensive stop, Indiana would counter. Watfords 3 with 9:24 left made it 62-46 and completely deflated a capacity crowd of 18,809. After Ohio States LaQuinton Ross, who had 11 points, got a bucket in traffic, Watford flipped in another 3 for a 67-54 lead. Ohio State got as close as eight points in the final minute but this time the Hoosiers would not collapse. Oladipo closed out the game with four free throws for his career best. "We definitely learned from it," Watford said of the Illinois defeat. "That was the main thing from that game. We let one get away but at this point we had to come into a hostile environment and get a win." Aaron Craft added 16 points for Ohio State (17-6, 7-4) which dropped two games back of the Big Ten leaders with seven games left, severely crimping their chances of extending their string of three years with at least a share of the conference title. The nations longest run of avoiding a losing streak also ended. Ohio State had gone 121 games without losing back-to-back outings. "Wed guard and theyd throw it down and (Zeller) was just finishing," Buckeyes coach Thad Matta said. "We couldnt gain that momentum. Unfortunately we didnt guard them at the level we needed to in terms of what they were doing." ' ' '
but the Pacers have struggled to score while Danny GrangerINDIANAPOLIS -- Its all starting to come together for Gerald Green and the Indiana Pacers. <a href="http://www.shopbearsgear.us/matt-forte-bears-jersey/">Matt Forte Jersey</a>. Green scored a season-high 21 points to help the Indiana Pacers beat the Utah Jazz 104-84 on Wednesday night. Paul George had 20 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, and George Hill also scored 20 and had five assists for the Pacers, who matched their largest victory margin of the season and won for the fourth time in five games. Indiana has been one of the leagues best defensive teams all season, but the Pacers have struggled to score while Danny Granger, last years top scorer, recovers from surgery on his left knee. Against Utah, the Pacers scored more than 100 points for just the fourth time this season and shot 51.3 per cent from the field, the first time this season the Pacers were above 50 per cent. "Its a big lift to really come out and play well on both sides of the floor," George said. "We knew our defence was holding up. A lot of times, our defence holds up, its just a matter of whether of if were capitalizing on the other end." The Pacers took most of their shots in rhythm. "I think we trusted passing more than we have all season and thats what coach (Frank Vogel) has been preaching all year long," Hill said. "If we can believe in each other, trust in each other, try to create a shot for each other rather than for yourself all the time, we can have great offensive nights like we did tonight." Green started in New Jersey last season, and the Pacers had high hopes for him after acquiring him during the summer. He had struggled with his shot recently and was dropped from the starting lineup, but he found a groove against the Jazz. "We just want him being aggressive, and thats how guys get out of shooting slumps -- not by being hesitant, but by getting that green light and just go," Vogel said. Derrick Favors scored 16 points, Alec Burks had 12 and Mo Williams 11 for the Jazz, who lost their third in the last four games. "They are a good defensive team," Utah coach Tyrone Corbin said. "They took us out of what we wanted to do early. They forced a lot of late shot-clock shots, most of them from the perimeter." The Jazz took an early 11-6 lead, but the Pacers dominated the rest of the first quarter and led 31-23 heading into the second. George dominated the early part of the second quarter to help the Pacers extend their lead. Indiana led 53-31 at halftime, holding the Jazz to their lowest point total in a half this season. Utah made just 3 of 20 field goals in the second quarter and scored only eight points, a season low for a quarter. "We took a defensive stand, communicating, helping one another, being in our gaps, making things tough, and when you do things like that, you know its going to be a great night," Hill said. Hill had 14 points at halftime and George had 12. A three-point play by David West early in the third quarter pushed Indianas lead to 56-33, and a layup by Hill extended it to 25 points. By the time the Jazz called timeout, the Pacers led 60-33. Indiana continued to dominate defensively, and the Pacers ended the third quarter with a 76-51 lead. The Pacers largest lead in the quarter was 32 points. Utah was 6 for 18 from the field in the period, and by the end of the quarter only one Utah player had scored in double figures. Indiana had four players in double figures at that point. It was a humbling loss for Utah, which had a season-low point total and was outscored 52-28 in the paint. "I dont know if we can get past this quickly," Utah guard Gordon Hayward said. "We just need to get back to work and work on things in practice. Eventually, well put it behind us and move on." Utah was coming off a 92-90 win at Brooklyn on Tuesday night, while Indiana lost at Milwaukee on Tuesday. "Both of us playing back-to-back, I dont think we can use that as an excuse," Hayward said. "We just got outplayed tonight." NOTES: Hayward, a former Butler University star, scored eight points in 13 minutes at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, just a few miles from where he played college ball in Indianapolis. ... Utah G Jamaal Tinsley, a former Pacer, did not play. ... No Jazz player scored more than two points in the second quarter. Utah went 0 for 8 from 3-point range in that period. ... Mitchell was acquired from the New York Yankees in the trade last July for Ichiro SuzukiSEATTLE -- The Seattle Mariners officially announced their $2. <a href="http://www.shopbroncosgear.us/eric-decker-broncos-jersey/">Eric Decker Jersey</a>.75 million, one-year deal with outfielder Raul Ibanez on Wednesday, returning the veteran to where he began his major league career in 1996. Seattle confirmed an agreement with Ibanez over the weekend but needed to clear a roster spot before making the transaction official. That took place when the Mariners designated for assignment right-handed pitcher D.J. Mitchell, opening a spot on the 40-man roster. Mitchell was acquired from the New York Yankees in the trade last July for Ichiro Suzuki. The deal allows Ibanez to earn an additional $1.25 million in performance bonuses. This will be his third stint with the Mariners, after rejoining them from 2004-08. "Raul is the ultimate professional both on and off the field," Seattle manager Eric Wedge said in a statement. "His veteran presence will be invaluable to our younger group of players." Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik has said the team wanted to add veteran leadership in the off-season. The 40-year-old Ibanez hit .240 with 19 homers and 62 RBIs in 384 at-bats for the Yankees last season. Including the playoffs, Ibanez hit five home runs that tied the score for the Yankees and eight that put New York ahead, according to STATS. He homered twice after entering as a pinch hitter on Sept. 22 in a 10-9, 14-inning win over Oakland. And with New York fighting for the AL East title, he delivered a tying, pinch-hit homer against Boston in the ninth Oct. 2 and then singled in the winning run in the 12th. Then in Game 3 of the division series against Baltimore, he became the first player in major league history to homer twice in a post-season game he didnt start. He pinch-hit for Alex Rodriguez in the ninth inning and hit a tying home run, then hit a winning shot in the 12th. Three days later, his two-run homer in a four-run ninth inning tied the AL championship series opener against Detroit, a game the Yankees lost 6-4 in 12 innings as the Tigers started their way to a four-game sweep. Whether theres another season of production left in Ibanezs bat is uncertain. Hell be joining the worst offensive team in baseball, which has tried to make incremental upgrades during the off-season but has been unable to make a huge splash. Seattle last week added power-hitting Kendrys Morales in a trade that sent left-hander Jason Vargas to the Los Angeles Angels. Former Yankees prospect Jesus Montero started 77 games at designated hitter last season for the Mariners and 55 behind the plate, so Ibanezs acquisition by the Mariners could make catcher John Jaso expendable. Jaso made 39 starts behind the plate and 44 at DH. The Mariners also signed former Mets slugger Jason Bay to a one-year deal in the hope that he could restart a career that fell off in New York. But there remain questions about whether any of the three can make a significant difference to Seattles scuffling offence. "In Raul we have a player and person with outstanding leadership skills who has participated in post-season play the last several years," Zduriencik said. "We will give Raul the opportunity to come in and compete and add an additional veteran presence to this ball club." In 17 major league seasons that also included time with Kansas City (2001-03) and Philadelphia (2009-11), Ibanez has a .278 career average with 271 home runs and 1,116 RBIs. <a href="http://www.shopbroncosgear.us/mike-adams-broncos-jersey/">Mike Adams Jersey</a>.Y. - San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey and Tampa Bay Rays closer Fernando Rodney have been selected comeback players of the year. <a href="http://www.shopbroncosgear.us/ryan-clady-broncos-jersey/">Ryan Clady Jersey</a>. Rookies Wilin Rosario and Jordan Pacheco had consecutive two-run doubles in the first inning to lead the Rockies to a 7-4 win over the San Diego Padres on Friday night. But Gonzalez quietly went about his job by equaling his career high with four hits, all singles. He also stole two bases to become the first Rockie to reach the 20-20 club in three consecutive seasons. "It means a lot because every year in spring training I always try to get better and get better numbers than the year before and stay consistent," Gonzalez said. "Im always trying to get better and maybe in future I can do better things." Rockies manager Jim Tracy appreciates Gonzalezs consistent play and the example he sets for the younger players. "Carlos just plays, just like we are seeing with Dexter Fowler," Tracy said. "They are continuing to play. I think thats very important, that message to be sent to our younger players." Gonzalez had his breakout season in 2010 when he set career highs in batting (.336), homers (34), RBIs (117) and stolen bases (26). He followed that up by hitting .296 with 26 homers and stealing 20 bases last season. When he stole second base in the ninth inning, it gave Gonzalez 22 home runs with 20 stolen bases. "I never stopped believing that my swing is going to get back to where I want it," Gonzalez said. Theres not much left to play for in a season when Colorado has clinched last place in the NL West. But the Rockies (58-85) still need to win 10 of their final 19 games to avoid tying the clubs worst record at 67-95. Chris Nelson and rookie Charlie Blackmon each hit solo homers as the Rockies won for just the third time in 11 games. Nelson tied his career high with three hits. Rosario and Pachecos big hits keyed a five-run first inning in which Colorado sent 10 men to the plate against Andrew Cashner (3-4). Rookie Yonder Alonso hit a grand slam in the first inning for San Diego, which had won seven of eight overall and 11 of its previous 13 at home. "We got right back in the game with the grand slam," Padres manager Bud Black said. "We had a couple of oppportunities, but couldnt come away with a big hit to keep anything going. <a href="http://www.shopbroncosgear.us/manny-ramirez-broncos-jersey/">Manny Ramirez Jersey</a>" Guillermo Moscoso (3-1), the second of five Rockies relievers, allowed two hits in 1 2-3 scoreless innings. Rafael Betancourt pitched the ninth for his 29th saves in 34 chances. Cashner lasted just 3 2-3 innings, giving up six runs on 10 hits. The right-hander was making his second start since coming off the disabled list on Sept. 1. After San Diego cut the Rockies lead to 5-4 in the first inning, Nelson gave the Rockies a 6-4 lead with a solo homer, his ninth, in the third inning. Blackmon hit his first homer in the eighth off Brad Boxberger. Colorado scored five runs in the first as the first five players reached base safely in an inning that included three infield singles and a hit batter. After the Rockies loaded the bases, Rosario hit a ball that short hopped the wall in left centre for a two-run double. Pacheco then doubled in two more runs. Nelsons high chopper with one out went for an infield single to drive in the final run. The Padres got right back in the game as Tyler Chatwood allowed one-out singles to Will Venable and Chase Headley before loading the bases by walking Yasmani Grandal. Alonso followed by hitting a 2-1 fastball into the left-field stands for his first career grand slam. NOTES: Cashner got his first big-league hit with a bunt single in the second. .. MILWAUKEE -- Defence has been a problem for the Detroit Pistons on the road. Against the Milwaukee Bucks, they had no trouble. Greg Monroe had 26 points and 11 rebounds, Brandon Knight added 20 points and Detroit beat Milwaukee 103-87 on Friday night to hand interim coach Jim Boylan his first loss with the Bucks. The Pistons had been allowing 100.1 points per game on the road, but turned up the defensive pressure and took Milwaukee out of its game in the second half. "The third quarter was terrific," Detroit coach Lawrence Frank said. "We were able to score off of our defence and hold them to 11 points. Greg and Brandon were exceptional. Ball movement, spacing, the stops, limiting them to one shot and out. It was a tremendous third quarter." Coach Scott Skiles and the Bucks mutually decided to part ways Monday. Boylan, a longtime NBA assistant who had been with Skiles in Phoenix and Chicago, took over and won his first game in charge Tuesday when the Bucks beat Phoenix 108-99. Then, after trailing by 15, Milwaukee rallied to win 104-96 at Chicago on Wednesday. But it was a different story Friday night. Knight and Monroe keyed the attack as the Pistons outscored Milwaukee 33-11 in the third quarter to take a 14-point advantage into the fourth. The Pistons opened with a 23-5 run and took a 64-54 lead on Knights three free throws. Brandon Jennings was called for a foul on Knight and picked up a technical arguing the call. Knight made the technical and then the two free throws. He led the comeback with 10 points and Monroe added eight. "We did a good job of coming out and focusing on defence first (and) executing on offence," Monroe said after his 13th double-double of the season and sixth 20-10 game. "Its definitely something we can look at and build on." Contributions from everyone helped Detroit erase the Bucks 49-41 halftime lead. "Just, the guys were open and a lot of good opportunities, transitions," Knight said. "We were able to get stops. It always sstarts with stops. Bobby Rainey Jersey I was able to push it, slow down a little bit and see where guys were open at. Our guys just did a great job just finishing around the basket and playing with a lot of energy." Detroit led 74-60 going into the fourth quarter and squashed any hope of a Bucks comeback when Monroe scored on a hook shot, layup and dunk and Knight added a 3-pointer as the lead grew to 83-62 with 9:57 to play. Rodney Stuckeys 3 gave the Pistons another 21-point lead with 2:48 to go, and the Bucks didnt get closer than 14 again. Jennings and Beno Udrih each had 15 points for Milwaukee. The Pistons improved to 4-14 on the road and snapped a three-game losing streak in Milwaukee. The Bucks helped out by shooting 39.6 per cent. Detroit hadnt played since Sunday when the Charlotte Bobcats 108-101 victory snapped its four-game winning streak. Larry Sanders said the Bucks might have been a little fatigued, but that wasnt the key. "(They) kind of wanted it more than us," Sanders said. The Bucks bench provided most of the energy during a 14-0 spurt midway through the second quarter. Ersan Ilyasovas baseline layup capped the surge and gave Milwaukee a 42-31 lead. Udrih keyed the attack, scoring seven points while John Henson added four. Udrihs falling-down jumper in traffic gave Milwaukee a 49-39 margin. Knights floater just before the half ended made it 49-41. NOTES: Rookie big man Andre Drummond, who had 11 rebounds for Detroit, has at least 10 boards in six of his last seven games. ... Sanders has blocked at least one shot in 22 consecutive games. ... Both teams shot poorly in the first quarter. The Bucks were 8 of 22 from the floor while Detroit was 9 of 22. ...
